Slick Rick, the hip-hop legend known for his smooth voice and storytelling rhymes, is back with something major. After more than 25 years, he’s dropping a brand-new album called Victory on July 13. Yeah, you read that right—Rick the Ruler is sliding back into the rap game like he never left.

This isn’t just any regular album, either. It’s a visual album, which means it comes with a movie to match the music. And guess what? That movie is being directed by Idris Elba. Yes, the same Idris from The Wire and all the movies your aunt keeps talking about.

Slick Rick first made waves back in the '80s with classics like “Children’s Story” and “La Di Da Di.” His last full album dropped in 1999, way before TikTok, smartphones, or even Wi-Fi in most places. A whole generation has grown up without a new Slick Rick album—until now.

Rick said this project is about rising above the drama and finding peace. "It’s called Victory for a reason," he said. "It’s about making it through the battles and still shining.”

So if you like storytelling, old-school flavor, and music with style, get ready. Rick’s still got the eye patch, the jewels, and the voice—but now he's got something to say for 2025. And let’s be honest… the rap game could use a little more wisdom and a little less mumbling right now.

Let the countdown begin. Victory drops July 13. Keep your eyes peeled and your speakers ready—because the Ruler’s back, baby. 👑

Yo, what’s good, squad? Summer 2025 is about to be hotter than your cousin’s BBQ with no AC, ‘cause some heavy hitters in hip-hop are droppin’ new albums in July. We talkin’ Clipse, Joyner Lucas, and Kevin Gates—three names that got the game buzzin’ like a group chat when someone spills the tea. Let’s break down why these projects got everybody hyped, and trust, it’s gonna be straight fire.

First up, Clipse. If you don’t know, that’s the duo of Pusha T and No Malice, two brothers from Virginia who been spittin’ bars sharper than your mom’s side-eye when you forget to clean your room. They’re droppin’ Let God Sort Em Out, their first album together in, like, forever (okay, since 2009, but that’s ancient in rap years). Pusha T’s been teasin’ this one for a minute, sayin’ it’s got that gritty, street vibe with beats so hard they’ll make your headphones apologize. Fans are already callin’ it a comeback for the ages, like when you finally find that missing sock.

Next, we got Joyner Lucas with ADHD 2. This dude’s known for snappin’ on tracks and droppin’ videos that hit like a plot twist in a movie. His last album, ADHD, was all about his life and struggles, and this sequel’s supposed to go even deeper. Word on the street is Joyner’s got some crazy features lined up, but he’s keepin’ it low-key, like when you sneak snacks into class. If you’re into bars that make you think and beats that slap, this one’s gonna be your summer anthem.

Then there’s Kevin Gates, the Baton Rouge king who’s basically the rap game’s favorite uncle with the wild stories. He’s comin’ with Luca Brasi 4, the next chapter in his fan-favorite series. Gates is all about keepin’ it real, mixin’ deep thoughts with hooks that stick in your head like glitter after a craft project. His fans, or the “BWA” crew, are already losin’ it online, hypin’ up tracks they ain’t even heard yet. Bet you he’s got a song about bread or somethin’—dude loves his metaphors.

Why’s this a big deal? July’s lookin’ like a buffet of bangers, with each of these artists bringin’ their own flavor. Clipse is givin’ us that classic rap vibe, Joyner’s hittin’ us with storytelling, and Gates is keepin’ it 100 with his soulful street talk. It’s like choosin’ between pizza, tacos, or fried chicken—you can’t go wrong. Plus, with summer in full swing, these albums are about to be the soundtrack for every cookout, car ride, and TikTok you make.

So, what’s the move? Mark your calendar for July, ‘cause these drops are gonna have the aux cord on lock. Whether you’re ridin’ with Clipse’s throwback vibes, Joyner’s deep cuts, or Gates’ real talk, hip-hop’s eatin’ good this summer. Stay tuned, fam, ‘cause the rap game’s out here movin’ like your grandma when her song comes on at the reunion.
